Hannah Montana on Disney Channel is the story of Miley Stewart, a 14-year-old girl who has a secret identity, but she’s no superhero…she’s the famous teen pop sensation, Hannah Montana. To keep this a secret and to maintain her normal family life and friendships, Miley goes to great lengths to make sure that nobody discovers that underneath her hair and makeup, Hannah Montana is really just the girl next door.
Kids relate to Miley's everyday life and aspire to the wish fulfillment of her secret life as a pop star. Hannah Montana’s pop star world highlights the wish fulfillment a superstar lifestyle can afford, but underneath all of this are stories rooted in issues relatable to all kids such as home, school, family and friends. The setting is in Malibu with a backdrop of a sun-filled beach boardwalk, surf shop and snack bar where Miley and her friends hang out.
Funny situations arise when Miley's dual identity Hannah Montana gets her into a bind. Miley is a country girl at heart and sometimes a bit of a fish out of water in Malibu, slipping into humorous "southern talk" when she gets nervous. Only her family and her closest friends know that she is secretly a pop star. Hannah Montana’s music is written by her Dad who is both her songwriter and manager and is featured organically in the stories with occasional concert footage.
