Mickey 90 Celebrations
This November marks the 90th anniversary of the mouse who started it all and the festivities have already begun!
From every corner of the world, celebrations are well underway to wish Mickey a very happy anniversary from special fashion shows to art installations, dance events, concerts and more, all about the infamous mouse.
Here's our rundown of some of the celebrations happening around the globe. Look out for events happening near you too and don't forget to wish Mickey a very happy anniversary on November 18th.
United Arab Emirates
Earlier this year an amazing topiary statue of Mickey Mouse was erected in the Dubai Miracle gardens standing 18 meters tall and made from 100,000 flowers. It’s truly breath-taking. To celebrate Mickey’s 90th anniversary, his friends are joined him with sculptures of Minnie, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Huey, Dewey and Louie. We can’t wait to visit.
France
Mickey is Art challenged students from 38 art schools to recreate Mickey through the art movement that most inspired them. The winning pieces were displayed at key train stations around France. Hidden Mickey’s swept through the country too as Disney fans were encouraged to find the hidden Mickey’s in their neighbour hoods and share them on Instagram. We love the variety!
Spain
Disney in Partnership with Leroy Merlin, renovated a shelter home for children at the Ciudad Escuela Muchachos where they can study, and live together like a big family. Disney cast members got busy decorating the building in all the colours of the rainbow featuring a big picture of Mickey at the centre. Once the project was complete, Mickey and Minnie arrived at the shelter to celebrate and check out the new artwork.
Germany
In Germany, the fashion design students of AMD Akademie Mode & Design München designed haute couture dresses all inspired by the most infamous mouse around to celebrate his anniversary. In Berlin, Mickey Projections made up part of the Festival of Lights where guests could spot Mickey on famous landmarks.
UK
In London, the summer festival season kicked off with a sneak peek of the Mickey & Minnie summer fashion range soon to be in stores. Over 80 social media influencers attended the event, which included a panel hosted by radio and TV presenter Vick Hope and featuring popular influencers Spectrum Sisters, Dodie and Ling KT.
Turkey
In collaboration with one of Turkey’s most prominent fashion designers, Gamze Saraçoğlu, an “Inspired by Mickey” capsule collection was created across many different products. The collection contains women's and young adult’s active and sleep wear, textiles and home products. Mickey was on hand to review the designs.
South Africa
Ten highly talented South African artists applied their own artistic skills on 6-foot Mickey Mouse Statues bringing their individual styles to the most infamous mouse around. The statues then formed an exhibition, travelling to 3 cities across South Africa, celebrating Mickey as the true original.
